New two-component encapsulation resin for automotive electronics for reliable sensor protection
The new two-component epoxy resin DELO-DUOPOX CR8031 protects electronic components such as sensors even at high temperatures and is easy to use.
The two-component epoxy offers good adhesion to various plastics such as PA or ABS. Even with PE, which is difficult to bond due to its low surface energy, it is possible to achieve a shear and compression strength of 20 MPa after plasma pre-treatment.
With an elongation at break of 5%, DELO-DUOPOX CR8031 is relatively elastic and can withstand permanent temperatures of up to 180°C. Even after 1000 hours of storage at maximum operating temperature or at 85°C and 85% humidity, the mechanical properties of the product remain unchanged. In addition, the resin is oil and fuel resistant, making it suitable for applications in the engine compartment - for example, for encapsulating sensors and circuit boards or sealing housings.
This epoxy resin achieves this level of reliability without being filled, thus offering many advantages in terms of use. As there is no risk of filler sedimentation, no mixing of the resin is required and therefore no outgassing, simplifying the design of the dispensing installation. The excellent flow characteristics of this low-viscosity product are a further strength.
DELO-DUOPOX CR8031 is mixed in a 2:1 ratio. It can be used for fully automated production, but is also well suited for semi-automatic processes for medium-sized batches. The dispensing guns with their static mixing tubes allow the resin to be easily applied as a one-component adhesive. This epoxy resin has been optimised for fast production and can, if necessary, cure in 10 minutes at a temperature of 80 °C. Without additional heat input, it reaches its functional strength after 16 hours of curing at room temperature, thus saving energy and minimising stress on the component.
The product is black in colour and can be stored at room temperature.
